It’s so beautiful and captivating that resisting it is nearly impossible… We’re talking about Istanbul, a city whose allure remains undiminished through the ages. Even if you’ve never been before, that doesn’t mean you never will. Here’s a 48‑hour guide to exploring Istanbul—think of it not as a race, but as an invitation to immerse yourself in the city’s spirit if a weekend is all you have.
Lions Royal İstanbul is prepared especially for our guests.
Day 1 in Istanbul
Good morning, Istanbul!
You’ve arrived with your budget flight and now it’s time to start discovering the city. Have a solid breakfast at your accommodation or one of Istanbul’s many breakfast spots—fuel up, because it’s going to be a long, lovable day.

Sultanahmet & Historic Peninsula
Head to Sultanahmet to dive into the heart of Istanbul’s history. Start at Topkapı Palace, the longest‑living residence of Ottoman sultans. Wander through its lavish rooms, see the sultans’ personal effects and historical archives. A well‑paced visit takes about two hours.
Next, walk to Hagia Sophia and the 6th‑century Byzantine wonder, the Basilica Cistern .
Lunch on the Peninsula
Need recommendations? Our “Historic Peninsula Gourmet Tour” post (linked in the original Turkish) offers excellent local spots. Or hop on the tram to Eminönü to try the iconic fish sandwich by the waterfront—pair it with pickled juice for a true Istanbul experience
Karaköy & Galata
Walk or take the tram from Eminönü to Karaköy. There, ride the historic Tünel (one of the world’s oldest metro lines) up to Taksim. Your first stop: Galata Tower. Take in the panoramic city views and fall in love all over again.
Afterward, stroll down Istiklal Avenue. Watch street performers, explore quirky shops, and soak up the atmosphere

Dinner
For dinner you have two vibrant options:
- Return to Karaköy and eat in a cozy side‑street spot.
- Stay around Istiklal Avenue—choose from historic restaurants like the famous Lades Lokantası, trendy cafes, or sample Antakya cuisine at Antakya İşi Sokak Lezzetleri.
Cap the night off with dessert at the classic Sakarya Tatlıcısı in Beyoğlu
Day 2: Discover Anatolian Istanbul
Üsküdar in the Morning
On your second day, cross to Istanbul’s Asian side. Start in Üsküdar—an area so picturesque it’s been immortalized in songs. If you haven’t eaten yet, enjoy a breakfast of simit and tea overlooking the Maiden’s Tower (Kız Kulesi)
Choose Your Afternoon Adventure
You have two fantastic afternoon options:
Option A: Büyükada (Princes’ Islands)

- Take a ferry (about 1 hour) to Büyükada .
- Rent a bicycle and cycle up toward Aya Yorgi Church. Midway you’ll need to walk your bike up the hill—but it’s worth the effort.
- Enjoy spectacular views, relax over a meal at the top, then cycle back down and explore the island at your leisure
- Before returning, grab a simit and feed the seagulls on the ferry—classic Istanbul charm
Option B: Kadıköy
Relax, listen to street musicians, watch people pass by—and soak in the local vibe for at least an hour or two
Dive into Kadıköy’s lively market scene: start at the fish market and stroll through Güneşlibahçe Street
Head to Moda. Stop in one of the many small cafés, then walk along the tree‑lined seaside promenade.
